Lenka – The Show Lyrics & Video
Julia was crying, I thought it would be easier for me to bounce her, if I at least had something to bounce to. So I bobbed her in my arms, trying to “tune her in” to the position that she was demanding, as I went into the kitchen where my laptop was on the table. I had one of my playlists up, and I took it off pause – Lenka’s “The Show” started to play – and there was the beat for the bounce.
By the end of the song, sleeping beauty lay peacefully in my arms.
A fluke, right?
The next day, I had the playlist goin’ and when “The Show” came on, there was a look of acknowledgement on Julia’s face.
Fun song, I enjoyed rocking her to the beat, and again, while she’s not quite yet showing her happy emotions, her eyes lit up, a glimmer of what, excitement? joy? happiness? something that appeared to be quite positive. And then, as it ended, sleeping beauty again in my arms. Out like a light.
I’ve got to tell ya’all, my hips are killing me. Thank God that I was prepared for this moment back in August at Grandma Linda’s 70th birthday party. Kiko invited me to dance, I accepted, refused to give way to my body’s screams of agony and to quit before the song was over, to find out, after the song was over, that everyone was surprised that I made it through the whole song…Umm, I’m still trying to decide whether the pain was worth it, because I started having pain the next day, that continued to worsen. My doctor insisted that I did “something” to cause the pain, sent me to physical therapy where suggestions were offered to me as causes, and I realized that there probably was a correlation between the onset of pain and the party.
I don’t know which is harder to admit, that I’m fat or that I’m old. And then, I remind myself, that it’s all perception. And the only perception that I am required, by the laws of the universe, to accept are MY OWN. Therefore, I have nothing to admit.
Back to my original story – So, tonight – Julia was cranky and fussy. Rob talked to her and did his best, to no avail, to persuade her to go to sleep.
I don’t know, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes? I made suggestions that fell upon a nonbeliever. Rob, nonverbally, had insisted that HE knew his daughter, and that HE didn’t need me, nor Erica, to give him advice on what to do to calm her down.
So, after giving daddy ample time to retreat, I told him to give nana his baby girl.
I turned on “The Show”…instant wind down and within a few bars her eyes were closed and she made those sounds of appreciating that moment when you realize that you’ve got your feet up, your body’s relaxed, not a worry in the world and you’ve got the time to enjoy it – PEACE!
It was amazing.
I told Erica that I had “The Show” cued up and ready. So about half hour later, with the laptop on my lap in the living room Erica brings me Julia and tells me to put the song on.
So, I turned clicked the window open and pressed play. I don’t know what the sound quality is on other laptops, but my Toshiba sucks! It wasn’t working.
I carried Julia and Toshiba to the kitchen and plugged the speakers back in – and again, the wind down. Erica watched Julia’s face as once again relaxation mode set in.
The moral of this story – Nana perceives herself to always be right.
Oh yea, I gave Julia a bath in the tub 02/03/10
Lyrics – THE SHOW
I’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I don’t know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know why
Slow it down
Make it stop
Or else my heart is going to pop
‘Cause it’s too much
Yeah, it’s a lot
To be something I’m not
I’m a fool
Out of love
‘Cause I just can’t get enough
I’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I don’t know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know why
I’m just a little girl lost in the moment
I’m so scared but I don’t show it
I can’t figure it out
It’s bringing me down I know
I’ve got to let it go
And just enjoy the show
The sun is hot
In the sky
Just like a giant spotlight
The people follow the sign
And synchronize in time
It’s a joke
Nobody knows
They’ve got a ticket to that show
Yeah
I’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I dont know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know why
I’m just a little girl lost in the moment
I’m so scared but I don’t show it
I can’t figure it out
It’s bringing me down I know
I’ve got to let it go
And just enjoy the show
Just enjoy the show
I’m just a little bit caught in the middle
Life is a maze and love is a riddle
I dont know where to go I can’t do it alone I’ve tried
And I don’t know why
I’m just a little girl lost in the moment
I’m so scared but I don’t show it
I can’t figure it out
It’s bringing me down I know
I’ve got to let it go
And just enjoy the show
dum de dum
dudum de dum
Just enjoy the show
dum de dum
dudum de dum
Just enjoy the show
I want my money back
I want my money back
I want my money back
Just enjoy the show
I want my money back
I want my money back
I want my money back
Just enjoy the show
