Because I had spent the last quarter of a century with my focus solely on my own, only child, Robert’s mom, Erica, I admit that I wasn’t really looking forward to having a baby in the family.
Lots of people in the family didn’t have a lot of confidence in my ability to make a smooth transition of becoming a grandma
When Robert was born, initially, ok, I wasn’t all that jazzed with the sleeping, nursing, spitting up, peeing and pooping gig that he had goin’ for him, but as I was able to hold him and quiet him on the rare occasions that he would cry, I found myself bonding with him.
It was a pleasant surprise to everyone, most of all myself to find that my entire life has been to be Robert’s Nana.
Soon I will be Julia’s Nana too. Robert’s baby sister is due February 8, 2010.
Of course I’m apprehensive about having to divide my time between my granddaughter, who I’m sure will be no less precious than my divine little Robert. I’m sure that Robert will teach me how to adore Julia, just like he’s excited to have a little sister to take care of.
